Third Party Tools

One important aspect of the Altinn Studio is that we encourage to use third party development tools to create and modify applications.

Since application code and config is versioned in Altinn Studio Repos and that is a GIT based source control any development tool with GIT support can clone application repository to local develoment machine.

In addition the application is based on a asp.net core web application that is supported in tools like Visual Studio Code.

Suggested tools

The following tools are examples on tools that you as a developer can install and use for application development.

Git

Git is a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency. Altinn Studio Repository uses a git based source control system.

You can download a git client here

Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio Code is a lightweight but powerful source code editor which runs on your desktop and is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. It comes with built-in support for JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js and has a rich ecosystem of extensions for other languages (such as C++, C#, Java, Python, PHP, Go) and runtimes (such as .NET and Unity)

The application repos created in Altinn Studio contains workspace configuration for Visual Studio Code.
